Indian Independence Day is celebrated all over the country on 15th August every year as India got freedom from the British rule on 15th August 1947. On this day, the tricoloured flag of white, green, saffron colours was first hosted by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Indian Prime Minister at Delhi at Red Fort.

From this day, India celebrates the Independence Day all over. On this day, there is tribute paid to freedom fighters that fought valiantly for independence. The main event is held in New Delhi, the capital of the country and Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at Red Fort. After that, there is parade, music, gunshots, and live performances. Political leaders also attend this event and give long speeches about the heritage of the country.

Indian Independence Day is National holiday and hence people often plan picnics and outings on this day. People fly kites and there are lot of different coloured kites seen on the skies as a symbol to freedom.
